On June 29, 2022, the Coalition for Rivers Protection in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Center for Environment, in co-operation with Czech organization Arnika and the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, will organize the conference Environmental Democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina: implementation of the Aarhus Convention in legislation and practice.
Aim of the event
Although 20 years have passed since the adoption of the first laws transposing the Aarhus Convention into legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the rights of access to information, public participation in decision-making, and access to justice in environmental matters remain to be fully realized. This event will provide a space for discussion on progress and ongoing challenges in the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in BiH. Featuring presentations of the latest Aarhus Convention National Implementation and Shadow reports for BiH as well as a panel discussion, participants will be provided with an opportunity to share their experience on the state of environmental democracy in BiH and collectively agree on necessary steps forward.
Target groups
Representatives of authorities and public institutions competent in the area of environmental protection, representatives of the judiciary and relevant inspection bodies, civil society organizations dealing with environmental and human rights protection, academia, representatives of embassies and international organizations, and others.
Additional information
The conference will be held in the Amphitheatre of the UNITIC Business Centre (Fra Anđela Zvizdovića 1, Sarajevo). The conference will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, starting at 9.30 and finishing at 13.00. The conference will be organized in B/C/S and English language with simultaneous translation provided. Reimbursement of transportation costs will be provided for NGO representatives traveling from outside of Sarajevo.
