Preparation of the entire sampling program will be presented at the workshop. It consists of defining objectives, creating a sampling plan, field sampling, treatment of samples, preservation, transport of samples, and preparation of laboratory samples for analysis and documentation of the whole process. The workshop will focus mainly on sampling sediments, surface and groundwater, and soil.

During the workshop, various sampling techniques, statistical approaches to sampling, handling of samplers, types of containers for sample storage, and analytical methods for the determination of environmental contaminants will be presented.
Good sampling practice should guarantee the taking of samples representing the contaminated area and can help to identify sources of pollution. Risk analysis of contaminated sites can be prepared and remediation measures can be proposed at the site based on the sample analysis.
