There are many heavy chemical factories with old environmental burdens, including contamination by POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants). Besides that, the AVE CZ company has been aiming to put a new hazardous waste incinerator into operation since 2008. In 2009, a dissenting opinion was issued on this project as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). In 2018, however, the Ministry of the Environment annulled this opinion as insufficiently substantiated. In 2020, a new EIA was assumed.
