The cement plant is located in the small village of Prachovice in the Chrudim region, near the protected landscape area of Železné hory. The village has one of the largest limestone quarries in the Czech Republic. In 2015, the Mexican company Cemex took over the operation of the cement plant. In addition to cement production, the cement plant also burns what is called “refuse-derived fuel” (RDF) made from municipal and industrial waste. The cement plant in Prachovice has long-term problems with a strong odor which has bothered the locals for several years. In addition, the company strikes to deepen the mine and increase the emission limit for chemicals that can cause odor.
