The top ten contributors to the genuinely terrible air quality are based on the official data and put together by the Arnika Association (Czech Republic) and Eko forum Zenica. The lists were taken into account by major polluters emitting chemicals dangerous to human health and the environment in the EU register E-PRTR in 2015 and 2016.
Despite the highly toxic air in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), only limited data on the pollution is accessible to the public. The government is failing to meet its international obligations, as well as those under domestic law, and publish a transparent register of major polluters. People, thus, do not know who is really poisoning them, to what extent, and cannot effectively enforce the necessary improvements.

Lethal air pollution with no responsibility. The people of Bosnia-Herzegovina lack information and efficient protection by law

Who poisons the air in Bosnia-Herzegovina? The top 10 shows ArcelorMittal Zenica's industrial polluters, the Tuzla thermal power plant, and the Lukavac chemical factories. These are the main culprits for the industrial air pollution of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in the last few years. However, according to recent analysis, the data presented by the polluters is full of errors and the public does not have access to full information on their environmental impact. Also, a number of possibly worse polluters keep silent and hide their emission data from the public. No figures are available in one part of the country where significant polluters are also located, such as the Gacko, Stanari, and Ugljevik coal power plants. Experts are calling for the ratification of the PRTR Protocol and enforcement of domestic law.
