At the turn of 2022 and 2023, people from two Moldovan villages joined forces to clean up a local landfill that has long been a source of pollution. As there is no safe regional waste disposal site, the locals have no choice but to use the inadequate village landfill. It is adjacent to a nature reserve, which pollutes through rainwater runoff and wind-borne garbage. Therefore, the citizens, led by Maria Gurscaia of the NGO SOL, have at least modified it to prevent as much pollution as possible.
