Industrial Ukraine: Impact of pollution on inhabitants and the environment in five industrial cities

The study is focused on the presentation and discussion of data related to heavy metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and organochlorine pesticides in five hot-spot areas in Ukrainian cities: Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Mariupol, and Zaporizhia. A series of inorganic samples (sediments and sands from child playgrounds) was taken from the selected areas for chemical analysis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of pollution on the local population and on the environment.
