Vysočany in the middle of transformation: a district left to the free hand of the market
The guided walk was led by Monika Domincová from the Rokytka Lives association and Anna Vinklárková from the Arnika organisation.
The former industrial zone is rapidly growing into a residential area - without services and public space. The walk showed how development without coordination turns out: predominantly residential construction instead of the promised mixed-use neighbourhood, uncoordinated projects around the Kolbenova metro station, impenetrable courtyards and sidewalks, parks and playgrounds in private ownership.
In the Vysočany City Library we followed up with an online panel discussion with representatives of the initiatives Spolka (Slovakia), Miasto jest nasze (Poland), Alliance for Collaborative Development (Hungary). In the discussion we discussed possible solutions and tools to regulate non-conceptual development and to address the housing crisis.
The event was part of the project "Visegrad Affordable Housing Workshop". In cooperation with partners from Warsaw, Košice and Budapest, we are working together to find answers to the current challenges of housing unaffordability in the Visegrad Four countries. The project is co-financed by the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from the International Visegrad Fund. The Fund's mission is to support initiatives for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
